Episode 120- A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET

Nightmare

We round out our month of listener requests with a Halloween-themed discussion of A Nightmare on Elm Street, the blockbuster 1984 horror flick that introduced the world to Freddy Krueger, Johnny Depp, and a bunch of people no one cares about anymore. It was a phenomenon back in the ’80s, spawning a myriad of sequels, toys, video games, and even a Freddy Krueger album– but how does it play now? FLASHBACK: Episode 10- The Monster Squad

This week’s new podcast is temporarily delayed, so for the time being here’s a Halloween episode from last year! Episode 10- The Monster Squad from October 2011… were we ever so young? Don’t forget to subscribe on iTunes! And be sure to follow us on Twitter!

What would happen if a bunch of scrappy Goonies-esque pre-teen boys joined forces with a creepy old man, who happens to be a Holocaust survivor, to fight an all-star line-up of movie monsters, including The Mummy, The Wolfman, and Count Dracula? The Monster Squad, that’s what.

It’s one of Blain’s favourite childhood movies, but the rest of the Rewatchability gang was less familiar with it. Does The Monster Squad stand the test of time? Is there more than one way to kill a werewolf? Does Dracula need to use so much dynamite? Is it wrong to try and create narrative parallels between a bunch of kids fighting make-believe monsters and the tragedy of The Holocaust? We attempt to answer these questions and more!

Episode 60- The Sixth Sense

It’s our 60th episode of Rewatchability, and what better way to celebrate than with a movie that has the number 6 right in the title! Yes, Halloween month (aka October) continues with one of the most memorable ghost movies of all time, 1999’s The Sixth Sense, starring Bruce Willis, Haley Joel Osment, Toni Collette, and Bruce Willis’ hairpiece. It shocked the world with its twist ending, but how does it hold up now? Joined by special guest star Anne T. Donahue, we discuss rewatching the film as well as M. Night Shyamalan’s filmography as a whole. Plus Air Bud. We talk a lot about Air Bud… Download the link below, or better yet, subscribe on iTunes! And be sure to follow us on Twitter!

Episode 59- The Craft

It’s October and here at Rewatchability we like to celebrate Halloween all month long with episodes devoted to movies and television best suited for the spookiest time of the year. First up, 1996’s The Craft, starring Robin Tunney, Fairuza Balk, Neve Campbell, Rachel True, and Skeet Ulrich. This movie has everything: witches… well, it mainly just has witches, but that’s okay! It was cutting edge in 1996, but how does it hold up now? To find out we’re joined by guest Alexandra West, download the link below, or better yet, subscribe on iTunes! And be sure to follow us on Twitter!

Episode 12- Are You Afraid of the Dark?

Well, are you? Not anymore… but there was a time when this show was legitimately scary. It also helped launch the careers of actors like Ryan Gosling, Neve Campbell, and Elisha Cuthbert. Though it may be a bit silly now, the show remains a cultural touchstone for anyone who grew up in the ’90s, and it makes for wonderfully nostalgic Halloween viewing.
